Hello. Meetings are open to the public and require no permit for attendance; the Nature Center is kept open for this indoor "after-hours" activity. Attendees should not bring telescopes to meetings except for special programs -- meetings are not observing sessions. The CAA's meetings take place on the second Monday night of every month except December. Starting time at the Rocky River Nature Center is 7:30 PM. There is no separate "youth" or "teen" subgroup; members and guests represent a wide range of ages and every level of astronomy experience from rank beginner to professional. Your 12-year-old is welcome to attend with her parent or adult caregiver. -- JG

Hello CAA,
My 12 year old daughter is interested in learning about astronomy. We bought her a 6 inch reflector telescope for Christmas. We are very green, but are eager to learn. I see we missed the January meeting. Can you tell me where the next meeting in February will be held. It listed multiple sites. Where do we go to get the permit to be in the park? It said to pick it up from the secretary. I only see a p.o.box address. If there is an age-related group for teens etc, I think we would be interested. We appreciate any information you can share with us.

It's interesting how some of the photos of Mars look just like typical desert scenes on Earth. You would almost expect to find ranches and settlements, etc. somewhere out in the distant Martian hills. Hard to imagine that the entire planet is one huge, apparently lifeless desert.

I love it! Although my husband John and I are 'newbies' to the CAA, we are just as excited about the new format with current infos and photos giving me more convincing reasons to smile and sing joyfully of the beauty and plenitude of planet Earth under God's magnificent Providence. The links to other sites are useful resources. Many thanks!

I was privileged to be present at "Cape Kennedy" (as it was known then) for the launch of Apollo 14. As part of a student journalism grant I had the same access as professional members of the press corps. From 3.5 miles distance the percussive sound of the Saturn V rocket rattled the grandstand from which press and VIPs witnessed the launch. It was as if an invisible hand was beating on my chest as I watched and felt the giant rocket accelerate and, all too quickly, disappear above the clouds chased by a tail of orange flame. The launch was a thrilling and emotionally moving experience I shall never forget and am reminded of the experience whenever astronaut Alan B. Shepard's name or likeness comes up.
